English title: English for Self-Learners
By James Branam, Iva Dostálová, Šárka Zelenková
This is my most successful book to date. After having written several books with my colleague, Iva Dostálová, I asked another colleague, Šárka Zelenková to join the writing team. It was a mistake. While Iva was dependable and hard-working, Šárka was not quite as diligent, and often, I ended up writing her section for her. She receives a third of the royalties, and because of the book’s success, this is quite a lot of money. The book has been published in five countries: Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Lithuania, and Latvia.
The book is a classic English textbook. Each lesson consists of reading texts, vocabulary, grammar explanations, dialogs, and exercises. The texts all form a story about Paddy Brown, the book’s protagonist. Two audio CDs are included.
The book’s popularity created the need to produce a second volume for more advanced learners. Iva and I wrote this ourselves, without Šárka’s help.
