By James Branam
I wrote this book while teaching English at a high school in Prague. I had been asked to teach English Literature, and frankly, I was not an expert in the subject (although I was an avid reader). I found myself having to “brush up” on literary classics before each lesson, and this preparation led to a pile of research on the classics and their authors. I later pulled these together into a book called English Literature for Graduation Exam.
To this day, the title irks me because the definite article is missing. It should read English Literature for the Graduation Exam. I was assured by the publisher that this was to save space. The book did quite well until other publishers got into the act and released similar books.
The books contains biographical information on American and British literary greats. Excerpts from the classics are included at the back of the book.
