By James Branam and Iva Dostálová
Practice in Translation is the first book in which I enlisted the help of one of my colleagues: Iva Dostálová. Iva and I would collaborate on a lot of book after this one.
The idea was simple. Break down the English language into sections, include a grammar explanation in both Czech and English, and include lots of sentences as examples. Each sentence is translated into Czech in the second part of the book.
It was a lot of work to write this book. It didn’t do as well as expected, but did bring in some nice royalties for a while.
Working with Iva was a great experience. We’re both hard-headed, but we get the job done, and the end result is pretty good.
